BIOGRAPHY



Nives Čičin-Šain was born in 1961 in Split, where she graduated from the School of Fine Arts in 1979. She gained the status of an independent artist-sculptor in 1989. She became a member of the Croatian Association of Fine Artists in Split in 1990.


To date, she has exhibited independently 46 times both in Croatia and abroad, and has participated in more than 60 group exhibitions around the world. She mainly bases her artistic expression on papier mâché, and three decades of research into this art technique have resulted in mutual improvements.


She has held a series of workshops in Croatia, Japan, Germany, the USA, Israel, Great Britain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Turkey. In the nineties, she participated in many theater projects, making art props, masks and jewelry, and created three independent sets and three costume designs. This gave her valuable experience, which is reflected in her current work.


She has also tried her hand at illustrating books. In 2007, she published the book "My Papier Mâché", which was translated into English and German. In 2013, she received the M.O.A. Preis - a lifetime achievement award in Neustadt b. Coburg, Germany. Recently, she has also been involved in graphic design, jewelry making, interior design and photography.


Her works are in private collections around the world and in several museums. She lives and works in Split.
